70% of online projects fail due to poor UX design
Your app can have the best technology in the world, but if users can't figure out how to use it within the first 10 seconds, they'll leave. First impression is everything in the digital world.
The 7 UX mistakes killing your conversions
1. Confusing navigation
If users need more than 3 clicks to find what they're looking for, you have a problem. The rule is simple: all important pages should be accessible within 3 clicks from the homepage. Use clear navigation with descriptive labels, not creative ones.
2. Slow load times
53% of users abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load. Each additional second reduces conversions by 7%. Optimize images, use lazy loading, minimize JavaScript, and consider a CDN.
3. Endless forms
Each extra field in a form reduces conversions by 10%. If you're asking for name, email, phone, company, title, address, zip code... you're losing 60% of leads. Ask only for the bare minimum: name and email or phone.
4. Invisible or confusing CTAs
Your main call-to-action button should be obvious, large, contrasting in color, and clear in text. "Submit" says nothing. "Schedule my free consultation" is much better.
5. Not responsive (mobile)
In 2026, 75% of web traffic comes from mobile. If your site doesn't look perfect on an iPhone SE (the smallest popular screen), you're losing 3 out of 4 visitors. Design mobile-first, not mobile-friendly.
6. Unreadable text
Font smaller than 16px on mobile, low contrast, lines too long (more than 75 characters), distracting backgrounds. Use 16px minimum, 4.5:1 contrast ratio, and max 65-75 characters per line.
7. Lack of visual feedback
When users click a button, what happens? If there's no animation, color change, or confirmation message, they don't know if it worked. Always provide immediate feedback.
Good UI design principles
Visual hierarchy
The user's eye should be naturally guided to what's most important. Use size, color, contrast, and white space to create clear hierarchy.
Consistency
Same type of buttons should look the same throughout the app. Colors, typography, and spacing must be consistent. Create a design system before building.
White space
Don't fear empty space. White space isn't wasted space—it's breathing room. It improves readability, comprehension, and design elegance.
How to test your UX
- 5-second test: Show your site to someone for 5 seconds. Can they say what it's about?
- Google PageSpeed: Analyze loading speed and get recommendations
- Hotjar/Microsoft Clarity: Record real user sessions to see where they click and get lost
- A/B testing: Test two versions of a page and measure which converts better
At AvilaDev, UX/UI design is an integral part of every project. We don't deliver beautiful code that nobody knows how to use. We deliver experiences that convert visitors into customers.
